Darrien Hsu Gee is an instructor of creative nonfiction at UCLA Extension, Hugo House, USA. Her writing spans multiple genres and has been recognized with several awards. These include a Poetry Society of America Chapbook Fellowship, silver and bronze IPPY awards for micro essay collections on growing up Chinese American and lived multicultural stories, and a Hawai'i Book Publishers' Award of Excellence for Writing the Hawai'i Memoir, a craft book on memoir writing with a local emphasis. She is the author of five novels published with Penguin Random House that have been published in eleven languages. Her work has been supported by a Sustainable Arts Foundation grant and a Vermont Studio Center fellowship. Recently, Gee served as the Third Mark Twain Distinguished Writer-in-Residence at the University of Connecticut. She runs a teaching platform Writer-ish.
