Jason Payne-James is a Specialist in Forensic and Legal Medicine. He has been a forensic physician for over three decades. He is Honorary Clinical Professor at Queen Mary University of London; consultant to the UK National Crime Agency; former Chair, UK Scientific Advisory Committee on the Medical Implications of Less-Lethal Weapons; President of the European Council of Legal & Forensic Medicine. He is Co-Chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Association of Forensic Sciences, 2026. He is past-President of the Faculty of Forensic & Legal Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians (2015-2017); past-President of the World Police Medical Officers (2011-2014). He was Lead Medical Examiner at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital from 2019-2025. He is director of Forensic Healthcare Services Ltd. Roger Byard AC PSM is an Emeritus Professor of Pathology at The University of Adelaide. After qualifying in medicine he undertook 5 years of clinical practice including Flying Doctor work in the Northern Territory and training and qualifying in family practice, as well as studying physical and medical anthropology in Canada. He has an interest in academic forensic research and has published over 1,000 peer-reviewed papers and 12 textbooks. In addition to his basic medical and other post graduate qualifications Prof. Byard has three higher doctorates: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Science (DSc). Jonathan Wyatt, Consultant in Emergency Medicine in Penzance, Cornwall and Lead for Applied Medical Knowledge at the University of Exeter Medical School. He trained as a surgeon before specialising in emergency medicine. He undertook an MD in Forensic Medicine in the University of Edinburgh and worked as a clinical forensic physician (police surgeon) for 15 years. He has published research and written books in emergency medicine and forensic medicine. He has worked as deputy editor for the Emergency Medical Journal and was on the editorial committee of several other journals. He worked as an expert witness in emergency and forensic medicine.
