Captain Severen Gris of the Spirelight International Police set out into the Schlogmire Ranges to put down one more upstart bandit gang. That was before he learned a terrible secret, of corruption within the Spirelight Empire, threatening the entire countryside. Now an outcast from his own people, Severen strikes an uneasy alliance with the bandit chief Rorkaster, against the Theocracy he once served.

Part of Tales of Old Deschemb: Dragons once breathed their fire across the Endless Darksome Seas, from which coiling steam hissed and billowed through the Ephemeral Realms. Out of the settling mists, there solidified the lands of Deschemb, a world alive with many spirits in its bloodstream...devilish, beautiful, grotesque, cruel, kind, and tricksy. The oldest people of the lands were the Schomites, tending their civilization as it grew from within the wilderness. Then from elsewhere in the Ephemeral Realms, there came the Gods of the Spirah Pantheon, to gather another wayward people, to raise them up on alien magic, and send them forth to bring order to Deschemb, beneath Divine Tyranny. Some bowed before the will of the Spirah Pantheon, while others resisted, none more fiercely or savagely than the Schomites. Hence began the days of blood and madness, across worlds and ages.
