M.J. Simpson is acknowledged as the leading authority on 21st century British horror films. In the late 1990s, he was part of the original editorial team who launched SFX magazine, a position which gave him a unique insight into, and connections with, the burgeoning British Horror Revival. Simpson has written for numerous genre publications and is now a regular contributor to Infinity and The Dark Side which presented him, in 2025, with a prestigious Tod Slaughter Award in recognition of his work in documenting modern British horror films.
