Her parents would lead her patiently home when they found her down the street after a stubborn childhood stand-off (probably over ice cream) not knowing how she got there. It no longer startled them when, in a blink, she was standing in their room at night, the door still closed behind her, needing snuggles at the heel of another bad dream. After losing her parents in a suspicious house fire and then losing her grandparents the same way, Meridee found herself in the system; medicated for something the doctors couldn't entirely agree on. Nobody believed her stories of the people she saw in her room those fateful nights. Nobody believed her when she said she didn't know how she got into the gardens after lock up, how she got into the kitchen, or why she was knocking on the front door to get back in after finding herself down the street; again. Escaping the home as a teen, Meridee made her way into the world with the help of strangers. She built a life for herself, reveling in its normalcy, ignoring the news, and keeping her head down. The outside world had nothing to do with her, she was just Meridee, after all. She worked hard at that. But the truth has a way of bubbling to the top, whether you seek it or not and the troubling news hit too close to home this time. And just like that, tag, Meridee was it and it was her turn to seek.
