Set amongst the fault-prone landscape of Northern California, The Pale Flesh of Wood is a lyrical debut set in the twentieth century and told through a multigenerational braided narrative of the Hawkins' family, examining the rippling effects of trauma and perceived fault after a loved one's suicide following his service in World War II.
