Linguists estimate that knowing around one thousand core words allows learners to understand up to 75% of everyday conversation. Built on this principle, the book goes beyond mechanical memorization and explains how words function within two different cultures and ways of thinking.
The book presents 1,000 widely used everyday words, without technical, medical, business, or IT terminology. Each word is explained in context, highlighting similarities, differences, and "false friends" - words that look familiar but behave differently in meaning or usage.
This approach helps learners move beyond translation and begin thinking in the target language, making learning faster, clearer, and more intuitive. Suitable for self-study, home learning, and intercultural education, the book is intended for readers from teenagers to mature learners.
In English as in Russian is the second volume in the My Thousand Words series, which explores language as a reflection of history, culture, and lived experience.
