I started writing poems in the year two thousand. I was on the way to work and I spotted a boy, about 12 years old, running to school. I wrote the poem as soon as I got to work. It was like switch being pressed. After that I carried on writing poems. I have written poems for writers' groups, for my own entertainment and whenever life got difficult. Poems express how I felt and feel much better than prose. My childhood memories are vivid and that is why I chose the title 'Take the Tiller'. Steering the boat back to the mooring made me feel like a grown-up not a child of four years old; the cover photograph was taken by my father on that day in August seventy-five years ago. What a memory.
I hope my poems resonate with others and enable them to share my thoughts and feelings. Even better for them to write their own poems of course...
