An expert at failure, a binge drinker, great cook and writer of books no one’s heard of... the narrator of these stories offers a refreshing and hilarious look at the adventures and misadventures of life in the literary world, which turns out to be not as sophisticated or pompous as one might think. The protagonist fails to replace García Márquez in Mexico, fails his guest appearance at a literary festival, fails at signing an autograph, fails as the winner of a literary prize, fails at scandal, and would fail as a writer… if he had decided not to be one.

David Betancourt nació en Medellín, Colombia, en 1982. Con la Editorial Universidad de Antioquia publicó Buenos muchachos (2011) y Bebestiario (2017). Yo no maté al perrito y otros cuentos de enemigos (Equinoccio, 2013; Ediciones Escritura Creativa, 2014) fue ganador del Concurso Internacional ASOCIEC, con sede en Venezuela. Una codorniz para la quinceañera y otros absurdos (Pulso y Letra, 2014) obtuvo el primer puesto en el concurso literario de la Gobernación de Antioquia. Ataques de Risa (Ediciones UIS, 2015; Gobernación de Norte de Santander, 2016; Ediciones Desde Abajo, 2017; Editorial Universidad Veracruzana, 2019) ganó el Concurso Nacional de Cuento Universidad Industrial de Santander y el Jorge Gaitán Durán. En 2016, con “Beber para contarla”, recibió el Premio La Cueva, el más importante en Colombia para un solo cuento. Ha publicado en medios de Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, México, Estados Unidos, España e Italia y varios de sus relatos han sido incluidos en importantes antologías. Su sexto libro de cuentos, La vida me vive amargando la vida, fue publicado porSeix Barral en 2017. La conjura de los vicios es su nuevo libro, y se publica en el sello Literatura Random House.
