"Cogito, ergo sum," said René Descartes in the 17th century. I think, therefore I am. And his philosophy that the body and the mind are separate entities, existing independently of each other set the tone for modern medical science. The mind is not shackled by the confines of space and time. The body is. When these two fundamental elements of our existence are not on the same plane, there is an incongruity. Embodiment is the great union - Yoga - of body and consciousness. It is becoming established in a choiceless awareness. It is becoming aware of each cell of the body pulsating with life force. Embodiment is being in presence of the present, living not only with the mind, but with our entire beings. It allows us to experience the interconnectedness of the creation which sets us on the path towards a richer life full of meaning and intensity. Consequently, it is a realization of the being itself.
