If the truth hurts, will you keep digging for it?
Sterling yearns to prove everyone wrong: that he can be a champion, and has not wasted his life training in figure skating instead hockey. But when budget cuts force his university's skate club to cut available spots for the season's qualifying competitions, stealing his last chance at a single-and he is only selected to compete with his soon-to-be-ex pairs partner, Lorrie, who has flaked out of practice-he's resigned to let his dream go.
MJ, Lorrie's childhood best friend, is also forced to face the music after likewise being snubbed of a single and being booted from the university's hockey team following a traumatic concussion. After losing the only things giving life purpose and suffering a gut-wrenching betrayal by Lorrie, MJ leaves the rink planning to drink herself to oblivion.
However, when she and Sterling discover her lifelong friend's dismembered corpse, any chance of escaping reality vanishes. It doesn't help that they both possessed motive to kill her themselves.
Desperate for answers and to prove her own innocence, MJ embarks on an obsessive research journey which leads her to the name of a recently released serial killer whose victims bear an eerie resemblance to Lorrie. When Sterling tells her it's crazy to hunt the suspect herself, she offers him a deal: in exchange for helping her find Lorrie's killer, MJ will take her place as his skate partner.
As MJ and Sterling entangle themselves in their college town's dark past, they discover painful truths about the present life Lorrie led in her final days.
Whether or not their drive for justice can protect any future victims remains unanswered.
