Liwayway Arceo (1924–1999) was a versatile writer whose short stories, novels, and essays constituted an impressive contribution to Philippine literature. For more than six decades, Arceo proved her mettle as one of the country’s finest fictionists, penning numerous novels and countless short stories that explore issues related to the varied roles of women in a changing society. She received the Gawad CCP for Literature from the Cultural Center of the Philippines (1993), the Gawad Balagtas from the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (1998), and the Catholic Author Award from the Asian Catholic Publishers (1998).
