Kathryn Kelsey has a B.A. in human biology, an M.A. in secondary science education, and a Ph.D. in wildlife ecology. Currently, she teaches high school science and acts as a middle school science resource teacher for the Seattle Public Schools. She is also co-director of the Science Inquiry and Research Council in Seattle. She worked as a research scientist in wildlife ecology before bringing her experience as a scientist back into the secondary school classroom in Seattle. Her first teaching experiences were in Benin and New York City.
