Currently, Ruth E. Smith practices physical therapy in the Roseburg, Oregon VA health care system. As a Veterans Health Administration (VHA) employee, she can integrate clinical hypnotherapy into the treatment plans of her patients. In 2017, VHA mandated several complementary treatments, including clinical hypnosis (hypnotherapy), to be offered to Veterans across the country. In 2019, Ruth participated in the pilot training courses for VHA clinicians and has facilitated many of these courses since that time. Although the majority of the clinician-students are mental health professionals, she is encouraged by the increasing number of physical and occupational therapists who value and complete the training.
