As we yield to God's sovereignty in everything we don't understand, we go from being a victim with a wrong mind-set, to being victorious. That is when we are learning to use our power and authority in God, which causes us to gain instead of lose, to grow instead of stagnate.
God has an amazing and miraculous way of turning things around, and making something beautiful out of what looks like a big mess and an awful mistake. When our prayers are not answered as we expect, it can be hard to believe God's promises. But they are still as true when it's dark as they are in the light. They still stand, for ever settled.
We need to trust God in what He gives us, and also in what He doesn't give us.
