The Cut: A Daring African Ritual is a captivating African Fork tale set in a remote village in Ebung'oma, Western Kenya. It follows the journey of a young boy named Mango, born into the Bukusu clan of the Abaluhyia tribes. Mango is the son of Omukhurarwa, a revered tribal chief known for his wisdom and leadership. As the only son among thirty daughters, Mango carries the weight of expectations and the hope of his clan's future.

From his birth, Mango's life is marked by tradition, leadership training, and the rich cultural practices of his people. His journey to manhood becomes a metaphor for navigating the challenges that his community faces. The turning point comes when the mythical serpent, Ekhilakhima, believed to be only a fairytale, emerges from the depths of legend to terrorize the village. The serpent's appearance, marked by the mysterious disappearance of livestock, ignites a crisis that threatens the very fabric of the village's existence.

Armed with courage and the wisdom instilled in him by his father, Mango decides to confront and kill this huge snake. After that, Mango gets initiated into adulthood by getting circumcised publicly in from of the whole community. This unique exercise becomes the pillar of the Abaluhyia circumcision to date.
