Long ago the stream that runs through the village of Hexford foretold the future, and for centuries witches protected the beck and its patron spirit. Until the spirit disappeared. Now the beck is silent, an old evil has returned to claim the place of power for itself, and it's Dinah's turn to keep Kallin Beck from falling into the wrong hands; those of the powerful witch Dagaunet.

Dinah Nye is a kitchen witch and baker at heart, but she isn't so sure that she's ready for the responsibility of protecting Hexford. Luckily, she has her friend Eshe, a student of folklore and fledgling witch, to help her.

Into the mix is thrown Isolde, a frenemy witch whose sole purpose is to protect her younger sister. Vivian has been driven mad by visions since Dagaunet returned to Hexford - and time is running short before the premonitions turn fatal.
As revelations come to light, it appears that Dagaunet has a rightful claim to the cottage, the spirit of the beck didn't just disappear, and Isolde will choose whichever side will keep her sister alive.
