I glanced up from my thoughts and I saw her. Walking down the middle of the street. A little girl, rather small. Not much more than five foot if she was that. As she got closer I saw she was dressed in a plain cotton dress that looked a size too small, and the little bit of hair, sticking out from under her floppy hat, was the color of corn husks. As she drew closer, the way she fills that dress tells me she ain't no little girl. Not no more.
