Retired Denver homicide detective Arn Anderson returned to his sleepy hometown in Wyoming just to restore his boyhood home-but he keeps getting caught up in chasing serial killers. An old friend of Arn's wants him to look into the suspicious deaths of her husband and brother, both dead of apparently natural causes in Veterans Administration hospitals several hundred miles apart. But both victims had almost identical injuries… and it seems they may not be the only ones. Arn doesn't think there's anything natural about the deaths, and once again, he enlists the help of his TV reporter friend, Ana Maria, who turns her attention to researching similar deaths at VA hospitals. Soon, Arn is looking at a pattern he can't ignore, and a growing list of suspects. It doesn't take them long to single out an anti-military cult leader who was seen protesting at the hospitals when the murder victims were found. Then, there's the paroled killer from their past, who showed up in Cheyenne right around the time the killing spree started. Between dodging their old nemesis and closing in on new ones, Arn and Ana Maria fear they might be next on the VA Slayer's hit list.
