One of the most renowned and distinctive museum buildings in Poland, the National Museum in Szczecin is the largest cultural institution in Western Pomerania. It holds over 150,000 objects divided among its five branches, which include museums dedicated to contemporary art, Szczecin's history and regional traditions. The National Museum itself holds Poland's largest collection of artefacts from outside Europe, shedding light on the cultures of Africa, the Americas and Oceania. However, its main focus is on the history of the Pomeranian and Baltic regions and how this has in turn shaped their national identity.
